ABOUT THIS WORK

Two dense masses of cloud — one nearly black, one slate blue — set against a warm cream sky. The ground is left thinner and more atmospheric below, so the weight of the storm sits at the top of the canvas. Painted with a wet, loaded brush and almost no drawing underneath; the shapes are found in the painting rather than planned. It's a piece about pressure and stillness held in the same frame. Reads especially well in north-facing rooms.

Materials

Oil paint on linen canvas, stretched over a solid pine frame. The pigments are professional-grade chosen for lightfastness and depth of tone. The canvas is primed with traditional gesso, which gives the surface its subtle absorbency and the slight tooth you can see in the brushwork. Every material in the painting is intended to remain stable for generations under normal indoor conditions.

Technique

Painted by hand in oil over multiple sessions. Each layer is allowed to dry before the next is added — a slow process that gives the surface its depth, and the reason a single painting can take weeks rather than days. No two works are alike; even within a series, the gesture, the loading of the brush, and the way the paint settles are particular to that canvas.

Finish

The painting arrives rolled or stretched/framed and ready to hang. The edges are painted to continue the composition, so the work can be displayed without a frame if you prefer. A final coat of matte conservation varnish protects the surface from dust and UV without altering the colors. A signed certificate of authenticity ships with the work. Recommended care: keep out of direct sunlight, dust occasionally with a dry soft brush, no cleaning products.
